Silver
is a precious and soft metal therefore we have to mix copper in this
metal. Copper gives silver durability and prevent from damages. Sterling
silver consists of 92.5 percent silver and 7.5 percent copper. Oxygen
and sulfur that are mixed in air do reaction with silver and make it
tarnished. Care will prevent silver from getting tarnished.
Silver
jewelry should be wear with extra care that prevents it from scratches.
To minimize scratches silver jewelry should be stored in cloth pouch,
Small zip lock bags or in separate velvet compartment in your jewelry
box.
Silver
Jewelry often has rhodium plating. This plating gives silver platinum
look. Generally this plating is tarnish resistant. You can clean it
with a polishing cloth or with a jewelry cleaning cloth. Silver that
does not contain rhodihum plating is also cleaned in the same way, but
will require more frequent polishing to maintain its luster. Brand new
jewelry can be cleaned with jewelry cleaning cloth.
If
your jewelry appears dull with time, or requires deep cleaning we recommend
you clean it with jewelry cleaning cloth. Make sure the jewelry is dry.
Rub it with cloth and buff it with your cleaning cloth.
Never
dip your jewelry because some gemstones like turquoise, pearl and rhodium
plated jewelry losses its real finishing. May be this process can be
used with sterling silver jewelry that not embedded gemstones or not
containing rhodium polish.
Never
use toothpaste because toothpaste containing small granules that can
leave scratches on your silver.
